One Year Ago: Final Cast Update

Today marks one year since the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony.

One year since we performed in front of 63,000 people in the stadium plus a massive 10-figure world-wide audience.

We will mark the anniversary with a series of three posts, published at the exact minute they happened in 2012.
  • At 13.00 (this post)
  • At 18.00
  • At 20.12

Today's the day

On 27th July at 1pm, give and take a few minutes due to email delays, all volunteer drummers received a final email cast update from Team H, our volunteer co-ordinators.

Below is an excerpt of that email.

7 years in the making and we’ve finally arrived at Friday 27 July 2012, the day of the Opening Ceremony of the Games of the XXX Olympiad here in London. In just a few hours you’re going to be at the centre of it all, giving the performance of your lives as the whole world looks on.

Thigh, thigh, tummy, chest, clap, chest seems a long time ago, auditioning to Beyonce’s ‘Love on Top’ even longer, but here we are, and this is it.

Tonight is going to be spectacular, and we couldn’t do any of it without you. Thank you for being the most phenomenal group of people we have ever had the pleasure of working with. You have made the long hours, sleepless nights and soaking wet days a joy!

[...]

As we said in our text yesterday, call time for today is between 4pm & 6pm. It would be nice to have everyone ready in costume for 7pm so we can take some group photos outside the check-in area.

[...]

That’s it for now, enjoy every second of your Olympic day!

See you later, can't wait!

Team H (literally buzzing with excitement!)

ABOUTPandemonium Drummers

The Pandemonium Drummers were originally put together by London 2012 Ceremonies for the Pandemonium segment of Danny Boyle's spectacular Olympic Opening Ceremony. Following the Ceremony, the volunteer drummers kept on performing at a variety of events.

Based on their extensive training, they performed at other Opening Ceremonies, including the UEFA Champions League Final 2013, the FA Cup Final 2014, and the Heineken Cup Final 2014, and at a variety of large and small festivals as well as sports and community events. The Pandemonium Drummers are a returning act in London's major parades, including the London New Years' Day Parade, St Patrick's Day Parade, and the Lord Mayor's Show, and they coined Cheer Drumming, supporting runners at major sports events across the capital and beyond. The Pandemonium Drummers have supported the Special Olympics, the Teenage Cancer Trust, and a wide range of other charities.

The Pandemonium Drummers are a constituted association with charitable aims, and are working on a non-profit basis as volunteers.
